With relentless logic, and despite all the dire predictions and alarm bells that have been echoing for so many months, the crisis seems to be sliding inexorably over the brink, crashing onto the rocks below in a struggling mess into which much is inevitably being dragged.
There is broad agreement that there should be a transition, but to what?
